In May, leaders from across the global pulse industry gathered in Singapore for the Global Pulse Confederation’s “Pulses 25” convention—and Montana’s pulse growers were represented through our checkoff-funded partnerships with the USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council.
Held at the Fairmont Hotel in Singapore, the convention took place from May 18–23 and featured top analysts, agribusiness executives, policymakers, and researchers from around the world. The USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council (USADPLC) shared an exhibitor booth with the U.S. Dry Bean Council and hosted a U.S. industry breakfast, bringing American growers and global buyers together. One major highlight: USADPLC received the 2025 GPC Innovation Award for leadership in market development and innovation.
Key Takeaways for Montana Growers
1. Chickpeas are trending up.
Montana farmers stand to benefit from the rising U.S. chickpea acreage—up 12% this year—supported by strong international interest, especially from Pakistan and India. Our checkoff investment ensures Montana chickpeas remain competitive in global markets.
2. Green lentil production is increasing—but so is global competition.
Countries like Kazakhstan and Russia are ramping up production. That makes MPCC’s work to differentiate Montana-grown lentils even more important, especially through marketing campaigns that promote traceability, quality, and grower stories.
Why It Matters
Global markets, policy shifts, and production trends directly impact Montana’s pulse crop growers. Our state leads the nation in dry pea, chickpea, and lentil production—but we don’t operate in a vacuum. Being part of these global conversations ensures Montana farmers are not just reacting to change—they’re helping shape the future.
Your checkoff dollars help make that possible.
